Deadline for Tax Returns

31st January is the deadline for online filing of Self assessment tax returns. Over 9 million of us file on line. The last tax year ended on 5 April 2009, with paper returns due in by 31st October 2009. There is a £100 penalty and a seemingly larger risk of HMRC investigation for late returns.

So often it is not about filing the return but getting all the information together and to your accountant or tax advisor so he or she has a cat in hells chance of filing on time. We all vow to be more organised but once again that pile of receipts, information of share dividends and interest payments is all somewhere.
